Transsexualism is a naturally occurring birth condition.

A question about HRT for young transsexuals?
I´m from Brazil, and I am 18 year old mtf. I started my HRT when I was 13 with estradiol valerate (2 mg) and ciproterone, but in a very small dosage ( 2mg, but the recommended dosage is 50 mg or more). However I got good results, because now I don´t have any facial hair or a masculine voice. But ciproterone is very expensive and I think it would be better for me to use spironolactone as anti-androgen. So my question is: should I take 100 mg os spiro or less, considering that I dont´t show any masculinization in body? I really think that the levels of testosterone in my body are very low, otherwise I would have facial hair, witch I don´t, so I think that 100 mg is too much. So I was hoping to get some advice, because I live in a small city, and doctors don`t prescrive HRT for transgender people.
Honey, the only advice I can give you is; please, DON'T take hormones without medical supervision. Oestrogen is a potent and dangerous drug; people (including some of my friends) have died from self-medicating, and spironolactone is VERY dangerous.
I know that in your part of the world, life can be very difficult for transwomen; if you can't find a doctor to oversee your treatment in your town, find one in another town, but please, do find one.

I understand that the Brazilian public health service is now offering free treatment for transsexual people (www.365gay.com/Newscon07/08/08170… perhaps you should investigate that?
How Did You Deal With Being a Transsexual At A Young Age?
Can anyone share stories of how they learned to cope with wanting to change their sex during their teenage years?

(I'm a 17 year old partially closeted MtF)
To make a long story short. I knew I was a girl when I was five years old. At the age of twelve I was sent to see a psychiatrist, who told my parents that I had Gender Dysphoria A.K.A. Gender Identity Disorder(GID) At thirteen with the help of my psychiatrist my parents, found a special school that allowed me to attend dressed as a girl. I have been living as a woman ever since then, and I will soon be completing my transition by having surgery.

I suggest you use the links Radgal has furnished you they are very informative and will help you figure things out.

Also the link that Suzanne gave, is a beautiful story of a fifteen year old Transsexual girls transition. It is definitely worth reading
Why does every other YOUNG gay guy identifies as transsexuals and tell people that's what they are?
I'm NOT transphobic at all. I'm a 47 year old gay man and a good friend of mine(around my age) is a transsexual woman. And even SHE agrees with me. I have noticed that a lot of gay males in between ages 15 and 25 dress like girls and identify themselves as transsexuals. Even my TRUE transsexual friend thinks most of them are full of crap and have no clue what they're talking about. Transsexualism is a birth condition that people SUFFER from, so when so many gay boys go around calling themselves trannies, isn't that insulting? Is this some sort of trend these days? I'm sorry but it's NOT cute. Am I the only one who noticed this?
i do think a lot of it is just because they can. let's face it....transsexualism is still quite exotic in our culture. young people are more open, more willing to experiment and more willing to try a label that really doesn't fit.

yes....for us...more mature...transsexuals it can be very annoying and quite frustrating.....flaming gay guys swishing around telling everyone they are transsexual....and it does happen...i've seen a lot more of it than i would like.

i would beg to differ with you on this account though....i don't "suffer" with transsexualism. it's not a disease....it's not a "defect"....it's just another expression of human diversity. i used to be a victim of the cultural stigma attached, but i chose not to remain one.....i don't like being a victim.

rather than "suffer" from it, i choose to live in harmony with it. it's a fact, not a "poor little me, pity me....i had it so rough" thing in my life.

those transsexuals who choose to "suffer" from transsexualism annoy me more than the the gay guys and wannabes. they aren't an illusion giving us a bad name , they are us giving us a bad name. i guess i'm just not impressed with people who wallow in their victimization....i respect people who rise above it...refuse to be a victim. that doesn't just apply to transsexuals, but that, to me, means all people who would rather be the victim than to be equal to everyone else.

that's just the way i see it.....now watch the "victims" bust out the thumbs down.....they are victims, you know....that's what they do.

much love and hope. pj
Transsexuals who know their gender early vs those who learn later in life?
I was wondering why some transsexuals learn that they identify as the opposite sex in which they were born as young guyren while others don't realize until they're in their teens or older. Does it make you any less of a transsexual? Just opinions on this subject in general are wanted also. Thanks
As Denver noted, this question is a common one. The most correct answer is that those people who come out later usually always felt different, but did not know why. People do not "become" transsexual, it's something that is inborn. Just like anything else intensity varies. Those with medium to low intensity may take longer to figure out why they feel as they do. In the process they suffer with confusion and pain because they can't figure out why they don't fit in. Another factor is some of us are better at coping than others. One last factor is stereotypes and shame. In the bad old days it was a commonly believed stereotype that transsexual people were mentally ill, sex workers or psychotic killers. Growing up with that drilled into you by society it's not difficult to see how that caused many of us to repress our true selves because we had no positive images we could relate to.

Does it make anyone less transsexual? Heck no!

The goal of any treatment is to make the person happier, more comfortable and productive.

If you have issues I would urge you to speak with a gender therapist:

Estrogen injections in a young woman?
Would it be possible for a young woman (not a transsexual) to get some kind of estrogen therapy? The feminine shape, clear skin, and small amount of unwanted hair that comes with high estrogen levels is appealing to me, but the various cancers that come with some therapies are not.

Is there any safe option?
Many young women already do; contraceptive pills all contain oestrogen.

If a young woman has a hormonal disorder, PCOS or similar, she can be given oestrogen therapy. It's not usually given by injection, though; it's usually either pills, transdermal patches or gel, or depot implants.
The cancer risks you worry about are small; unless she is taking very large doses without adequate medical supervision, she has no cause to worry.
I'm sure her doctor would have told her all this.

I rather suspect you're not asking this for a young woman; the disclaimer "(not a transsexual)" is a bit of a giveaway....;)
Young adult women: How would you react if you knew your dad had an affair with a transsexual woman?
I know this couple. The man is a much older man and his transgirlfriend is a performer in their late 20s.

The man has a wife and daughter. He's been married for 26 years, his daughter is 23 and involved in a Catholic Youth Group. How would you react if you learned that your father was having an affair with a transsexual and his marriage was falling apart with your Mom?
Obsessing over the shortcomings of a particular group is usually a sign of psychological denial at fear of being associated with said group. So either you have a "thing" for transwomen, or you fear you may be one.
